Friday, December 25, 2009

I cannot think of a time that I did not like spending with my parents - they are truly amazing and the older I get the more I love them! We spent Christmas Day evening with my parents.

It appears Adam is loved by my parents!

Just what I wanted...a new purse!

Kimber what did you get...a Svan highchair

Kimber's Savings Account

Monday, December 21, 2009

I get my spending habits from my Momma and my so-called-saving habits from my Daddy. As soon as he hear that Kimber's social security card was delivered Poppa has been adamant about opening a savings account for Kimber. Bank of America - show me the MONEY!

After a wonderful lunch - we opened presents with the Steele Family. In the past years we have done the "white elephant" gift. This year, at Thanksgiving, we drew names...a great time was had by all!

Benefield Christmas

Saturday, December 19, 2009

The family Christmas gathers have officially began! My Grandmother's house is still "in-the-family" and what a perfect place to celebrate Christmas. This year we did not exchange gift cards but, instead we filled red stockings with gifts - no one knew whose stocking you were receiving...it was a lot of fun!

Momma, Uncle Clyde, and Aunt Tracy

Oh! How I love Adam and Kimber

Paige and Patrick
It really seems like "yesterday" these two were born...

Family Tradition...
Patrick - I mean Santa - comes to the Christmas gathering...this is the 3rd or 4th time Santa has come to visit us. We all get to tell him what we want for Christmas. Santa's outfit is getting better each year.

Oh - how we miss you Grandmother! Christmas was not the same without you...we know you are celebrating your first Christmas at your new home!

A Teacher Is...

Coach Chris Kimes - from Northgate wrote this wonderful poem. It is so very true...enjoy!

A Teacher Is...

WE MAKE LOANS, TESTS, AND BULLETIN BOARDS
LECTURE, DEMONSTRATE, AND GET GUM OFF THE FLOOR.
INVESTING OUR CAPITAL IN THE KIDS AND THE ROOM,
TRY TO INSPIRE THEM TO REACH FOR THE MOON.

ARRANGING, RE-ARRANGING IN WORLD CLASS TIME
WHEN THE COPIER BREAKS AND YOUR LAST IN LINE
IT’S NOT JUST FLOWERS WE FIX, BUT LIFE ON THE VINE.
REALITY IS, THERE’S NOT ENOUGH TIME.

TO PUT A RELEVANT TWIST ON A CASE STUDY
AND CENSOR THE NEWS SO IT’S NOT TOO BLOODY.
DIFFERENTIATING SO NO CHILD IS LEFT TOO FAR BEHIND
AND ADJUST TO THE STANDARDS TO BE IN LINE

WITH A FOUR-PART PLAN OR ANOTHER GAPSS STUDY.
(IS IT SACS OR IS IT CASI?)
MY SECOND BLOCK GROUP…
OH, THEY ARE SASSY!

I AM NOT UNDER SENTENCE, I MADE THE CHOICE
TO HELP OUR YOUTH DISCOVER THEIR VOICE.
THAT’S RIGHT, I’M NOT ELECTED
I’M THIRD GENERATION, DNA SELECTED.

ARRANGING BAIL, NEGOTIATING PLEA DEALS,
BALANCING MORE PLATES THAN MEALS ON WHEELS.
WE’RE TUTORS, MENTORS, COMICS, AND COACHES, AT BEST.
BEFORE SCHOOL, BETWEEN CLASS, AND AFTER THE BELL, NO LESS.

I’VE GOT BANDAIDS AND DUCT TAPE
FIX UP YOUR JEANS AND GET YOUR EGO IN SHAPE.
WHATEVER THE NEED, WHATEVER THE CRISIS,
THEY LOOK TO US FOR THE SOLUTION AND ADVISEMENT.

HERE BEFORE THE SUN RISES AND HERE WHEN IT SETS
WITH MOST OF YOUR FRIENDS, YOU WIN ALL THE BETS
WHEN IT COMES TO TIME OFF THE CLOCK SPENT TEACHING
YOUR SPOUSE PROBABLY SUSPECTS OF YOU OF CHEATING.

SILLY RHYMES FOR FORMULAS TO LEARN
ROY G BIV AND MY DEAR AUNT SALLY IN MEMORIES STILL CHURN
THE NEXT GENERATION OF THINKERS WE SEEK TO ANNOINT,
WE CAN SELL ICE TO ESKIMOS WITH A LESSON PLAN AND POWER POINT

JUST SAY “NO” IS A LIFE CHOICE AND A SKILL
WITH REALITY OUR SOCIETY MUST LEARN TO DEAL.
ALL WON’T BE FIRST AND NOT THAT THEY SHOULD
FISH OR CUT BAIT, NOW THAT ONE’S FOR GOOD.

TALKING TO PARENTS WHILE JUMPING THROUGH HOOPS AND RAISING BAR
MAKING AYP, PASSING EOCT’S, ENSURING THEY’LL GO FAR
CULTIVATING, LISTENING AND HEALING
TELLING THE TRUTH
(DON’T HURT ANYONE’S FEELINGS!)

THOUGH SOME IN OUR FIELD HAVE FORGOTTEN THAT FACT
WHEN YOU LOSE YOUR REPUTATION, YOU WON’T GET IT BACK
IT’S A SACRED TRUST THE PUBLIC HAS IN THOSE WHO “CAN’T DO”,
ONE THAT SHOULD BE CHERISHED BY THE CHOSEN FEW.

EDUCATE COMES FROM THE WORD EDUCE
TO DRAW OUT OF, AND ENCOURAGE IN SEARCH OF THE TRUTH.
IT’S NOT WHAT WE DO, BUT WHAT WE GET
WE ALL MAKE A DIFFERENCE, SOME GOOD – SOME BAD.
BUT, I AM A TEACHER AND FOR THAT I AM GLAD!

Craft-Miller Wedding Weekend

Thursday, December 10 - Saturday, December 12, 2009

Wow! We made it away from home with Kimber for a weekend!

Adam's cousin, Lee, was married this weekend in Nashville, Tennessee. We did not know how Kimber would do on the long drive - so we headed half way on Thursday evening to Chattanooga to spend the night with Jessica, Justin and Tripp.

Tripp wanted to be around Kimber - but, not Adam!

This is hilarious to me - Adam and Justin were OUT early while Jessica and I stayed up late just to catch up!

Tripp is going to be such a big brother to sister ______ (Jessica has not made it know to many what her name with be) in March. He was all about helping - giving her the paci, patting her head...so sweet!

Now to Nashville...
The rehearsal dinner - Friday night was held at the Opryland Hotel
Our sweet family!

And now introducing...
Mr. Lee and Mrs. Amanda Craft!
The wedding was "musically" beautiful - we are happy we were able to celebrate this special day with you both!

We left after the reception to head home -we stopped back in Chattanooga to change, feed Kimber, eat with the Dunns, and catch up some more...we were home around 11:45pm - what a long day - Kimber did wonderful the entire weekend!
...on another note - Nashville drivers make Atlanta drivers look courteous!!

Santa

Saturday, December 5, 2009

I think it would be a great tradition to go to the "same Santa" (or at least the same location) as Kimber grows up. I really wanted Kimber to see Santa at Phipps Plaza - he is real! I did not know that you have to have a reservation - and it was sold out in October! Needless to say, every day for the past several weeks I would call at 10am to get on the waiting list in case someone canceled for the day...Saturday was our lucky day! Kimber got to see Santa...

Waiting to see the Real Santa!

...the scheduled time was close to the time she would want to eat...we feed Kimber in line
