All Dogs Go To Heaven

Monday, June 28, 2010

It was the Summer of 1996 - my Momma came home with this little Jack Russell. We named her Roxie. Within months we found out that she had a fatal case of demodectic mange. Our hearts were aching. Roxie was such a wonderful puppy! The breeder felt so sorry for us because it was thought that Roxie would have to be put down so she gave us another puppy, named Gracie. We heard the news of Roxie on a Thursday, received Gracie on Friday and by Monday Roxie had little signs of the mange. We gave all the credit to Gracie - we know she helped heal Roxie. Roxie and Gracie became known as 'The Girls'. We (the Thornton household) never thought that we would be a two dog house and I am so glad we were...

Front to Back: Gracie, Roxie, and Patrick

Over the past couple of weeks, Roxie started to show more and more signs of age. The past week especially. On Thursday, my parents took her to the vet to do blood work. Sunday was rough for Roxie - she had a hard time moving around and Sunday night was even harder. My Momma took her to the vet this morning and the blood work showed that she had kidney failure and a brain tumor. We (as a family) made the decision to not let her suffer another day. After 14 years, Roxie was part of our family. You'll be missed Roxie! ...Roxie loved (almost) everyone - she was so gentle - would sit as close as possible to you - scratched her back on the legs of chairs - smiled when you asked her to - calm unless she was getting her nails cut - would follow right behind my Daddy as he cut grass - loved her afternoon treat - sit at the table like a person - could turn on the water hose - you could do anything to her - she would get car sick and it would make us sick - sometimes we would swear she would say "Adam, Adam" when she would bark - love of water - when you would say "Love Roxie" she would put her nose to your neck and cuddle - she was wonderful around Kimber...

Amber - So sorry to read about your sweet Roxie. We lost our cat this summer to kidney failure, as well. I know how hard it can be! Love to all of you - Amanda
